Shawn Fischer, PMHNP-BC, is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with over 25 years of experience in various health care settings, and roles. He spent almost 20 years prior to his graduate degree working in various psychiatric care modalities, including inpatient and outpatient settings. This includes roles as a CNA/psychiatric aide, residential worker, caseworker, and a registered nurse. This has given him a good understanding of all the aspects of psychiatric care, and helps him to understand and manage complex mental health care. Shawn also studied and worked as an addiction specialist, which helps him to understand how addiction plays a role in providing a comprehensive approach to psychiatric care. Shawn received his associates degree in nursing from Northcentral Technical College in 2010, a bachelor’s degree from UW-Oshkosh in 2015, and a master’s degree from University of South Alabama in 2018.
Shawn is passionate about decreasing the generational stigma attached to mental health and substance abuse. As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Shawn provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, mental health education, and supportive psychotherapy for patients of all ages with varying psychiatric conditions. Shawn has a passion for working with children adolescents, and adults struggling with all psychiatric disorders. He also is dedicated to decreasing the stigma of mental health illnesses and substance use disorders. Shawn is committed to using evidence-based practice, staying up to date on research, and collaborating with other healthcare providers to give patients the best quality care to promote effective mental health treatment.
