Sally Lawton, M.F.A., is a student intern currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University. She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Sally believes in holistic treatment that considers the mind, body, and environment of each client.
Before entering the mental health field, Sally taught at the college level and worked with young adults often experiencing challenges and trauma. This led her to pursue mental health work that considers a multitude of approaches, influenced by art, teaching, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Sally welcomes clients working through trauma, major life events and transitions, as well as the day-to-day challenges of life.
Her therapeutic style is rooted in strength-based models that seek to support and empower clients. Sally integrates aspects of psychodynamic therapy, feminist therapy, Lacanian theory, and somatic strategies. She believes a therapeutic relationship based in empathy can lead clients to new pathways of thinking and greater resilience and understanding.
