Samantha (Sammi) Schams, Ph.D., CSAC, is a licensed clinical psychologist and clinical substance abuse counselor. She completed her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from UW-Whitewater. She also holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Her master’s and doctoral work focused on substance use, trauma treatment, and career concerns.

Sammi provides psychotherapy and substance use evaluations. Sammi is passionate about the efficacy of the therapeutic process. Her primary approach to therapy is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and is informed by Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She focuses on empowering clients to make choices on how they think, feel, and act to help them optimize their functioning to be their best selves. Sammi emphasizes the importance of client’s values and goals to direct the therapeutic process. She utilizes several therapeutic assessments to increase client’s self-understanding and provide clarity for healing. Sammi believes that each client is the expert in their own lives and uses the therapeutic process in the best, most effective way for them. She believes that if you’re here, you have the potential to achieve the life that you want. She would love to be the person that gets to walk with you in that process.

Sammi offers online counseling using a HIPAA-secure video platform to maximize convenience and confidentiality. Video-based counseling is covered by many insurers, and she accepts self-pay for those whose insurance coverage is behind the times. Sammi can provide online counseling to residents of the states indicated in blue on this map.

Sammi is also a member of the American Psychological Association.
