John Roherty is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2023. Before that, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2021, where he double-majored in Psychology and Spanish and minored in Ethnic and Racial Studies.
John strongly believes in providing person-centered, trauma-informed care. He employs an eclectic psychotherapeutic approach, which is grounded in mindfulness, attunement, authenticity. His approach draws from evidence-based modalities of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT). He further integrates his approach within a broader framework informed by theoretical orientations of Interpersonal Neurobiology, The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, and Cyclical Psychodynamics.
John’s professional interests predominantly consist of complex and chronic trauma, acute stress, and disrupted attachment. He has experience working with individuals from a range of marginalized populations, including survivors of domestic and sexual violence, those who are unhoused or experiencing housing insecurity, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and individuals impacted by both interpersonal and systemic racism.
