Janel Harper, Ph.D is a Doctor of Psychology and current post-doctoral fellow. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and completed both her master’s equivalent and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Walden University, Minnesota.
Dr. Harper most recently served as a Doctoral Intern and Post Doctoral Associate at Buwalda Psychological Services, where she primarily focused on neuropsychological and forensic based psychological assessments, provided individual and group psychotherapy, as well as court ordered treatment for individuals both in custody and outpatient. Janel also recently worked as a Doctoral level psychometrician at Psychological Pathways specializing in ADHD assessment and Autism diagnostics. Her clients ranging in age from 3 to 65+. She brings specialized experience in working with individuals from a forensic background, individuals experiencing severe mental illness, those struggling with substance use disorders, PTSD and abuse, as well as those found incompetent to stand trial. Her diverse and unique clinical background allows for a creative and real world approach allowing each client to be met where they are at, making a unique addition to the Behavioral Health Clinic team.
Dr. Harper is passionate and dedicated when it comes to conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations to support accurate diagnosis, including ADHD and Autism assessments. She focuses on a cognitive behavioral approach with a psychoanalytic touch. She primarily utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Trauma informed therapy. She prides herself and her ability to form therapeutic alliances with her clients, using her structural yet conversational therapeutic style. At the same time you may find yourself challenged in an encouraging way allowing you to become the best version of yourself with an improved overall quality of life. She knows that any one given the right tools and support can move mountains.
