Hello! My name is Amy (She/they), and I am a licensed professional counselor. I have had the privilege of supporting the mental health of my community for about thirteen years, with over eight years in my role as a counselor, and about five years before that through local community programs. I have special interests in working with adults, couples, and people in open or consensually non-monogamous relationships. Much of my work focuses on helping people better understand themselves, strengthen their connections with others, and build relationships that feel happier, healthier, and more fulfilling.
As a licensed professional counselor, I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, and a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.
When you come to see me, you may notice that my approach is humanistic in nature. This means that humans are my favorite animal! I believe that people are happiest when they are able to be their authentic selves, inside and out, while feeling genuinely connected to the people around them. This is the kind of therapeutic space I hope to co-create with the people I work with. My hope after every session is that you leave feeling seen, understood, and supported, with a clearer sense of the path ahead and the next steps you can take on your journey.
My therapeutic perspectives follow Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Sue Johnson’s Emotion Focused Therapy (EFIT), which is rooted in attachment theory. This means that we may work together to understand patterns in how you think, feel, respond, and connect with others. And we explore new ways of responding when those patterns are no longer serving you.
In my work with couples and relationships, I also think from an Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) lens, and use Gottman strategies to help partners better understand the patterns happening between them, to strengthen their emotional connections, and to communicate more effectively.
Thank you for stopping by my bio! If what you’ve read feels like it might be a good fit for you, I would be happy to meet and get to work.
